Akelarre is an electronic art piece—a site-specific intervention installed on the solarium terrace of Azkuna Zentroa / Alhóndiga de Bilbao.
A total of 152 filaments form the matrix of lights that give shape to the installation, a computer-controlled structure that unfolds by taking advantage of the modular arrangement of the architecture. Through an electronic switching system, different algorithmic behaviors move the luminous body sequentially across the geometries drawn by this terrace of metaphysical architecture. The dethroned sun gives way to new lights, sheltered by darkness. Electric fires compete to project their own representations across 44 arches laid out as a ritual space. The installation becomes a second skin—a luminous exoskeleton that guards this space open to the night.
