Dancing Building is a performance that merges dance and technology in an architectural-scale spectacle. The group, made up of the D’Clik dance company and choreographer Victoria P. Miranda, “dances with” one of the buildings at Etopia, the Center for Art and Technology in Zaragoza. The building’s LED façade responds with electronic forms to the dancers’ contact with its surface.
The piece, as an interactive installation, was created by placing a series of vibration sensors on the glass panels that make up one of the building’s façades. These sensors are read by an audiovisual system programmed to interpret the inputs, generating graphic forms and sound through computer-controlled oscillators. The result is an experimental action developed within the dance and new media lab of Festival Trayectos—a festival exploring dance in urban landscapes.
