Cierzo Module is an artistic intervention conceived specifically for Zaragoza’s Plaza Salamero. Named after the Cierzo—the dry, powerful northwest wind that characterizes the Ebro Valley—the installation merges light, water, vegetation, and sound into an audiovisual sculpture that transforms public space into an immersive sensory experience.
Composed of a matrix of 250 lights and a generative projection, the piece activates with geometric and dynamic patterns that sweep through the space, generating an electric dance. These forms are not figurative—they play with abstraction, rhythm, and the site’s architecture, illuminating both the fountain’s structure and the surrounding vegetation. The result is a living work that interacts with its environment, enveloping the viewer in a hypnotic and contemplative atmosphere. The content is generated in real time, offering a continuous live composition in a process of infinite variation. The project demonstrates how contemporary art can reconfigure our relationship with everyday urban spaces.
From a technical standpoint, the installation represents a complex integration of multiple systems. The project includes the development of custom software that synchronizes the lighting matrix and projection system in real time, as well as algorithmic sound generation. The sculpture is constructed from 18 prefabricated modules designed to house and secure the lighting elements and their electronics in a way that blends seamlessly with the site itself. Each module contains a sealed enclosure that protects the necessary electronics and allows for modular serial connection. The entire system is powered and networked in series through these units, which are anchored to the fountain’s metal structure using non-invasive mounting systems.
The development of the project involved stages of visual simulation, software design, electronic design, analog and digital fabrication processes, and final assembly in the public space. The work stands as a rigorous exercise in technological creation applied to public art, resulting in a piece with a poetics and sensitivity tailored to the context in which it is embedded.
