Interactive light sculpture, lighting system expanded into architecture

"Pii, Architectural Expansion" is a site-specific intervention that transforms the façade of the Official College of Architects of Aragon into an organism sensitive to the presence of the public. In this expanded version of the Pii sculpture, the piece is placed beneath the building’s large central arch, integrating with its architectural lines and projecting its activity across the façade through 55 light points distributed across the windows and balconies of the upper floors. These lights synchronize with the luminous and sound patterns generated by the sculpture, creating a living choreography that travels across the surface of the building. The work proposes a dialogue between historical heritage and contemporary artistic practices, where light and technology reactivate the symbolic value of the place and turn it into a multisensory experience open to the urban environment.
From a technical point of view, the installation is structured around the interactive sculpture Pii, which is equipped with a matrix of 60 infrared sensors capable of detecting presence from several meters away. These sensors modulate in real time the sound and light patterns of both the sculpture and the building, all managed by an embedded computer housed within the sculpture itself. Communication between the sculpture and the matrix of lights deployed on the building is carried out via DMX protocol, with internal wiring connecting the spotlights installed in each window. Each light point includes a diffuser, placed in the windows and balconies of the building. The piece features a powerful sound system that enhances the sensory dimension of the experience, evolving in sync with the visual stimuli and public interactions.
